Substitution of Candidates

Presidential aspirant and Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday, Nov. 10 said he was not bothered by whatever political plans Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio had.

This, after, Carpio withdrew her certificate of candidacy for reelection in Davao City on Tuesday, Nov. 9, sparking speculations that she could be shifting her focus on a national elective post — possibly the presidency.

“Wala naman akong pakialam sa kung ano ang gusto nilang gawin sa pulitika nila Yung kanila, wala naman kami doon. Hindi naman kami kasali sa kanilang pulitika. Buhay nila yon. Basta kami, sa tao muna (I don’t care on what they want to do with their politics. We are not there. We are not part of their politics),” Domagoso said in an interview with ABS CBN.

“Kami ni Doc Willie [Ong] tumakbo, nagdesisyon ng maaga, sumali at isunumite ang aming aplikasyon sa taong bayan, para maglingkod sa taong bayan (Doc Willie and I ran, decided early, joined and submitted our application to the people, to serve the people),” the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer said.

Many are speculating that the Davao mayor would run for a national post through substitution.

“I will let the people decide. Hayaan natin ang taong bayan na magdesisyon (Let us let the people decide), kasi alam naman ng taong bayan na tsinutsubibo ang buhay nila eh),”he said.

“Do not underestimate ang kaisipan ng mga mamamayan. They know. They always know.”
